GET ENGAGED IN NJ ISSUES BEFORE THE GUBERNATORIAL ELECTION

Today, PLANETCIVIC, a civic engagement platform designed to transform the way New Jersey residents interact with their elected officials and candidates, launches throughout the state, expanding from its Montclair base. PLANETCIVIC is FREE and non-partisan, and if you are a New Jersey resident you can join at www.planetcivic.com.

Our purpose is to inspire more New Jersey residents to get engaged with the issues and exercise their political power during this important gubernatorial and legislative election, and beyond. We’re building a community of New Jersey residents who want real progress on the issues that matter to them. Here in New Jersey, we’ve endured political stalemate for too long. The November, 2017 election brings an opportunity to demand action. PLANETCIVIC is a way for we, the people of New Jersey, to speak to our leaders and candidates with a collective voice at this pivotal moment.

How It Works
PLANETCIVIC exists to help citizens quickly mobilize support for their ideas to better New Jersey. It all starts with what PLANETCIVIC calls “an initiative.” The system makes it easy to propose an initiative, rally votes for this idea, and demonstrate the number of REAL NJ residents in favor or against a proposal. This voting data can be used to persuade leaders to act. We make it easy for you to find and email your state representatives with your idea, and organize political action groups around your cause.

You can vote on ideas already in the system, or propose your own
Any New Jersey resident can propose an idea in PLANETCIVIC NJ. Here are a few of our inaugural initiatives for the NJ page from organizers who are leading movements in the state.

  • Take action to stop the PennEast Pipeline, from Patty Cronheim, an environmental activist and Outreach Coordinator at ReThinkEnergyNJ
  • Prohibit gun possession by those with severe mental illness by Reverend Robert Moore, gun-violence-prevention activist and Executive Director of The Coalition for Peace Action
  • Fast-track the Gateway Project by Len Resto, transportation advocate and NJ Association of Railroad Passengers President
  • Build 3,500 MW of wind turbine capacity off the NJ Coast by 2030 by Doug O’Malley, Director of Environment NJ
  • Support the NJ Cat Declaw Ban Bill: S2410 by Karen Shinevar, animal welfare activist and President of Communities Promoting Animal Welfare NJ (CPAW NJ)
